We honor diversity...
as long as it doesn't include Jews

I've mentioned quite a few times before why I can't stand the Bay Area with all it's phony "we love diversity" and "I couldn't live anywhere else because it's the most diverse city in the world". Cough bullshit cough. I have never been anywhere were people think they are more priviledged, more hip, and more PC than the people of the San Francisco area, but in actuality are less tolerant and more self-important than anywhere else in the world. They go on and on about what a great place it is to live, and how they're just so open to the many different people (as long as they're Asian and completely a-religious) that live there.

Well, THIS is what the Bay Area is really about. Which is why I'd never go back, never. Not even to visit. Because this city is more hate-filled than anywhere I've ever lived, less tolerant, and so filled with self-importance because they live in San Fran-Fucking-Cisco that I can swallow.

There is absolutely nothing I like to see more than a bunch of heathen morons holding signs equating Jews to Nazis, and claiming that Jews run America. Yeah, we're talking real tolerance there.

Me, I'm praying for a nice big earthquake to drop the entire area into the ocean, where they belong.

They're having protests like that in all major cities... not just San Francisco. Compared to most cities, I must say that SF does have a nicely diverse culture. I have friends there from all races, religions, beliefs, and walks of life.

I agree with Dave2 - why pick on SF? Many cities thru'out the world have had anti-Israel demonstrations, including London, where I live.

And opposing the policies of the (Bush-backed) Israeli government does not make us anti-Semitic. Rather, it makes us pro-humanity for not wanting more civilians on either side to die for Israel's cause, be it against the Hezbollah in Lebanon or against the Palestinian people.

Agreed. The people suck. The protests by generally ignorant morons every week suck. But the architecture and the shopping and history and the scenery do not suck, and therefore I support evicting everyone from SF, then instituting a test designed to gauge obnoxiousness, which is mandatory if one wants to live or work in the City. :D

Dave and Denzylle,

Did you LOOK at the link? You think this is OK? If the word Israel and Jew were changed to gay or Black, would you think it was OK to say those things on signs?

I'm all for free speech, but what San Francisco allows goes far beyond free speech. This is HATE speech. That is a city filled with hatred. Maybe you don't feel the hatred because you're white, male, secular, and well to do. But if you are Jewish, it is not a city to live in, especially if you are observant. Jews leave in droves, because they are not welcome there, and because the city is so filled with ignorance over Israel that they can and will be anti-semetic, Jew phobic, and spew hatred and they're allowed to do this. It doesn't happen in ANY other city in the US.

There are protests, and there should be. We had a protest here in Boston, and it was a bunch of people, maybe 50-100 of them that held up signs and attacked the only Jewish person there. Yes, it's been documented. When the Jews have anything where many congregate, the police presence is HUGE, there are bomb sweeps, and cars are restricted because they know that the anti-Jewish sentiments are high. But the police would NEVER ever allow the signage or the behavior of the marchers in San Francisco. It wouldn't happen in Chicago, New York, or indeed in ANY other city. And it hasn't happened anywhere else.

The reason it hasn't happened is that this kind of march is pure and simple hatred of a people, and that kind of hatred is illegal in this country... oh, except for San Francisco. This is hate mongering, plain and simple, and to pretend that it's OK is specious.

I did, indeed, look at the whole of the link before I posted.

I agree that some of the signage was objectionable, that certain words are inflammatory and unnecessary. I believe in the right to protest and to freedom of speech but, in my opinion, demonstraters who defer from the point of the protest into gross generalisations about the members of a nation (whether it's the Jewish nation or the Muslim nation, or against non-Muslims in general, as happened in the protests after the Mohammed cartoon was published) are defeating the object.

For the record, I'm female and about your age, Margalit.

Please don`t tar ALL SF residents with the same brush -- and your hope for the "nice big earthquake to drop the entire area into the ocean" actually gave me chills, because it happens to be one of my greatest fears.

Not all SF residents think the same as those folks with their very ugly signs. Hell -- not all of us even LIKE it here, or consider it "home." But really, it`s not all hippies, yuppies and scary people here -- it just appears to be that way sometimes, because they get all the news coverage.
