Upcoming blogging events

October seems to the the busiest blogging month for special events. I love doing special blogging events, as you must have noticed if you're a regular reader. I like participating in things that I know are going to be fun for me and fun for my readers. I also like getting new eyes on my blog, and finding new blogs to read. So what's coming up?

On the 15th, Blog Action Day will take place across the Blogsphere. People will be blogging about the environment. Everyone will be writing about a personal issue regarding the environment. So if you're not yet involved but interested in the environment, jump aboard! As of today, there will be over 9800 blogs participating.

The week of October 29th is the Fall, Y'all Giveaway hosted by Shannon of Rocks in My Dryer and Bloggy Giveaways. I did last summer's giveaway and there were about 1000 participants. I actually won something, too! This is a great way to connect with new readers. You find something that you want to offer as a giveaway prize, you post your giveaway on your blog and use Shannon's Mr Linky to let people know what you're offering, and then watch the comments roll in. And if you're not reading Shannon on a regular basis, shame on you. Caveat: many of the offerings are Christian-based. If you're not interested, just skip them.

On October 25th, the second annual Blogtoberfest meetup for Boston area bloggers is happening. More than 60 bloggers have already signed up for this meetup in Back Bay. This year there will be prizes offered by official sponsors, and free food. Can you go wrong. If you're in the Boston area, sign up to attend. I'll see you there.

And of course, November is Nablopomo, the National Blog Posting Month. I'll be doing Nablopomo for the second year in a row. It was a lot of fun last year and I'd encourage anyone that is new to blogging, or in a blogging slump to try this out. All you have to do is post every single day for a month. No big deal, really. But if you're not a disciplined blogger, or have trouble thinking up posts, this is a good personal challenge. I'm not sure how many bloggers have signed up this year, but I'd guess there are close to a thousand different blogs. The cool thing is, because everyone participating blogs daily, you get to know new bloggers fairly well in a month. I found last year that I trimmed back my bloglines during Nablopomo, cutting quite a few blogs I no longer read, and added even more blogs that I found during that month.

So what are you doing in October? Anything special?

Thanks for the heads up about blog action day. I'm looking forward to NaBloPoMo too. Found lots of great blogs to read that way.
