The Boy bakes a cake

A play in one act

Setting: My Bedroom

Mom is taking a nap. A long, quiet nap. The background sound is the musical dripping of melting ice off the roof. She is in the middle of a dream.

Boy: Mom?

Boy: MOM!

Mom: ummmm

Boy: MOM! He pokes her with an index finger into her fleshy arm.

Mom: She stirs and says "whaaaaa?"

Boy: I'm baking a cake. Can I use the pans with the squiggles?

Mom: What?

Boy: The pan with the squiggles. Can I use it?

Mom: Do you mean the bundt pan? What kind of cake are you making? We don't have any cake mixes.

Boy: I found one from last Passover. I made it but I didn't have enough eggs.

Mom: OMG, it's not going to rise.

Boy: I don't care. It's cake.

Mom: What kind of pan does it say to use on the box?

Boy: 10 x 10

Mom: Then use the square glass pan.

Boy: OK, and skips off to the kitchen.

Enter The Girl

Girl: He's making a cake? Where did he find a mix?

Mom: It's was in the pantry. It's from last Passover.

Girl: Gross.

Mom: Indeed

Boy, from downstairs: But it's CAKE.

Fin.

My 16-yr-old likes to bake, but not independently. He likes to help me bake and decorate cookies, and he sure likes to eat the results!
