Sarah Palin Speaks

I don't know about you, but Palin's speech tonight at the RNC was worthless. She said nothing of substance. We have no clue about where she stands on serious issues facing America. Like health care. Not a word. Or housing problems. Nothing there either. Or poverty. Or food shortages. Or prices for food. Or the farm subsudies. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. She barely touched on energy reforms because she's for drilling and let's face it, who is for drilling for oil when the real useful energy reforms come with solar, wind power, geothermal, and the country learning to conserve.

Of course she said nothing about conservation because that doesn't fit in with the Republican ideas of reform. As in, make as little changes as you can and then lie to make it sound good.

Several things she said were patently untrue. She said the pipeline is the largest construction project in the USA. Nope. The Big Dig in Boston is. She said that she was against the Bridge to Nowhere. She was a big supporter of the bridge. SHe claimed to be an advocate for special needs kids but left her own special needs child 3 days after birth to go back to work. Plus, what have the Republicans EVER done for special needs kids but cut services left and right and give Americans the Every Child Left Behind legislation.

She didn't mention that she was a part of the succession party in Alaska, a group that wanted to leave the USA and become it's own nation. She didn't talk about the pentacostal church she belongs to that believes in a Christian nation with no room for non-Christians and that would govern the country by biblical law. She went on and on about using the veto, and yet promises to be non-partisan. How does that work, Sarah?

Can someone tell me why being a POW 40+ years ago qualifies someone to be the President. Because I'm missing exactly what one has to do with the other.

I'd also like to know why being a community organizer is a bad thing. Is it because community organizers help the poor and we all know that the Republicans don't believe in poverty. Out of sight, out of mind.

Did you see the TWO black men and one hispanic man at the RNC? Who let them in?

Do you have to be elderly and white to be a Republican?

Why did Palin feel the need to say next to nothing about the Republican platform but make fun of everything the Democrats stand for?

Why is being the head of the PTO a qualification but being a Senator for 30 years not?

Why isn't the media talking about the nastiness of the Republicans. Is it OK for them to be such smug assholes? Guiliani and Romney, you lost for a reason. You're both total assholes. Shut the Fuck up, take the smirks off your faces, and go away. Far far away. Smarmy jerks.

The Boy and I watched Palin's speech and he was blustering he was so ticked. The child is 16 and he pulled her speech apart point by point. Not only am I proud of him for knowing the real facts about our government and knowing the lies that Palin was espousing, but that, at the end of the speech, he said to me, "Now I understand why you want to kill off all the Republicans." Good to know that my kid will be carrying on the generational outrage about the people that believe only the rich have the right to be Americans. Oh, that would be rich and white.

I guess Republicans are ignorant of apartheid. Because that's pretty much what's happening within their party. Lovely lovely people.

In the next 36 hours, the McCain campaign will be pouring millions of dollars -- if not tens of millions -- into negative attack ads against Barack Obama.

Before John McCain accepts the Republican nomination on Thursday, his campaign has to spend every last dollar of primary funds they've raked in from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs.

Just yesterday, they aired a new negative ad in 14 swing states. His campaign manager even admitted that all McCain has to rely on is attacks, saying that for them, "This election is not about issues."

He doesn't want Americans to notice that the Republican platform is the most extreme we've ever seen -- opposing stem cell research, denying a woman's right to choose no matter what the circumstance, and continuing to spend $10 billion a month in Iraq.

The McCain campaign is trying to distract voters from the real issues -- so we're going to focus on what they're trying to hide.

They've come out against the life-saving possibilities of stem cell research.

They don't even mention protecting equal pay for equal work.

They support huge tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans.

They've almost completely ignored the $10 billion we're spending every month in Iraq.

And they make zero exceptions for a woman's right to choose -- even in cases of rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother.

If that all sounds like more of the same, that's because it is. John McCain is offering a third term of the disastrous Bush agenda, so it's no wonder his campaign would choose to focus on attacks instead of issues.

i could not agree with you more without spraining something. i hear all these people saying "oh Sarah Palin rocks" and i wonder exactly how much paint you have to huff to come to that conclusion? probably quite a lot.

but it's so typically Republican, when you have no substance, put a hot chick on TV (ref: Fox News)! i've heard people who are normally so level-headed about these things, babbling on and on about how feisty she is, would they be saying that if she resembled Janet Reno or Madeline Albright instead of looking like Tina Fey with bigger boobs? one wonders.

My dad is an old white Republican who was a POW (he was in the Japanese prison camp at the Rangoon Jail), and he's for Obama all the way.

Incidentally, he also complains bitterly about the poor medical care that current soldiers are getting, and points out how much better he was treated when he got out of the service.
