Have you seen the list of earmarks that ended up tacked on to the bailout bill that the Senate passed yesterday. I don't know about you, but I'm furious. FURIOUS. You would think that because I don't have a penny in savings or investments I wouldn't be so upset, but what programs do you think the Government is going to cut to the bone in order to make sure that this bailout works? That would be all of the social programs like foodstamps, unemployment insurance, TAFDC, and SSI/SSDI. It always happens. The "entitlement" programs are the first to go, leaving the poor and destitute on the streets. It's going to be a very long winter, folks.

Simply outrageous. Wooden freaking arrows? Those are more urgent than universal health care? Just how fucked up IS this country, anyhow?

Now it looks like the House is going to pass it as well. Gulp. $700 BILLION dollars. With no guarantee that this is all that Wall Street needs. With huge payouts still being allowed as golden parachutes. With no help for the "Main Street" citizens stuck in foreclosure. We're fucked, people. Seriously fucked.
New Tax earmarks in Bailout bill
- Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark “extenders” in the bailout bill.
- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)
Auto Racing Tracks? Your tax dollars are now going to subsidize auto racing, the world's STUPIDEST and most wasteful "sport"? So we can pollute the air even more and waste tons of gasoline watching cars go around and around a track? WTF?

Rum? We are subsidizing rum? OMG, how insane is this? Now, I love Cruzan gold. I'm a happy camper when I've got a nice big bottle of rum, fresh limes, and mint from the garden. Mojitos. Great drinks. But does the government need to subsidize this industry? Do you want to be paying for St Croix to make more rum?

Call your representatives. Tell them how ticked you are. They need to hear that earmarks do not belong on this bill.

See, we do agree on some things!

If America paid as much attention to each bill we passed as they have this one (where this stuff goes on as well), then maybe we would be in a better financial situation as a country.

Sometimes it makes you wonder how all those things get attached to each bill. I wonder!
